Sustaining a Viable Freight Sector in Atlanta

Gresham Smith collaborated with Atlanta’s Department of City Planning to develop the Northwest Atlanta Industrial Area Freight Study known as “Freight ATL: Northwest.” The plan examines transportation planning, traffic operations, and related planning needs, and identifies recommended projects and policy changes to address those needs. The study focuses on facilitating efficient movement of freight, improving access to jobs, reducing traffic congestion, improving safety, mobility, and access for all roadway users. It also identifies partnerships, resources, and strategies for sustaining a viable industrial sector in Northwest Atlanta based on an analysis of trends, case studies and best practices. The completed plan was subsequently recognized by the Georgia Planning Association with the 2023 Outstanding Planning Document award.
