Designing Canada’s First Large-Scale Battery Plant

Gresham Smith has been selected by NextStar Energy, a joint-venture between LG Energy Solution and Stellantis, to design a 4.5 million square-foot lithium-ion battery manufacturing facility in Ontario, Canada. The plant will be Canada’s first large-scale electric vehicle battery manufacturing plant. Gresham Smith is designing a manufacturing facility for the production of pouch-type cells as well as a module and pack building. Production is expected to begin in 2024, and annual capacity at the plant is expected to be 45 gigawatt hours.
