The project will realize Hankook’s vision and set the company on a path toward increased competitiveness in the United States with a modern and efficient foundation and highly tailored process-driven design. The 1.5 million-square-foot plant includes state-funded training facilities, as well as manufacturing, warehousing and office spaces. The design team incorporated sustainable design and construction practices, an efficient layout, and highly automated processes. Gresham Smith’s team also provided planning and infrastructure design for the three future phases, as well as a planned headquarters and R&D facility.

Hankook sought to establish its first U.S. facility with a goal of growing its American market share in the top-tier tire industry. Gresham Smith was selected to provided complete design services for the first phase of a four-phase passenger-tire manufacturing plant in Clarksville, Tennessee.
The state-of-the-art plant, situated on a 469-acre greenfield site, provides significant production capacity for the South Korean company and will create approximately 1,800 full-time jobs in the Middle Tennessee region.
