Intuitive Navigation for Exploring Nature

Alabama Wildlife Federation’s Alabama Nature Center is a 340-acre environmental education destination containing four classroom buildings, outdoor classroom spaces, a conference center and two historic homes. The center provides a base for the “Discovering Our Heritage” program to continue its goals of integrating nature and natural-history themes into the daily teaching of math, science, history and language arts in Alabama schools.

Our Experiential Design & Wayfinding team designed interpretive signage for five miles of the site’s boardwalks and trails, helping to create a nature-inspired, non-imposing wayfinding system that compliments the surrounding environment and highlights existing pathways. Monumental gateway elements with giant cutouts of animals indigenous to the area, such as deer, wild turkeys and fish, bring the signage to life.
