Many small airports have limited resources and expertise to promote environmental awareness, identify compliance requirements, and implement practices that proactively enhance environmental stewardship. As part of its mission to develop near-term, practical solutions to problems faced by airport operators, the Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP) selected Gresham Smith to create a guidebook to help small airports enhance their environmental stewardship and regulatory compliance. We led the development of ACRP Report 43: Guidebook of Practices for improving environmental performance at Small Airports, which includes high-level overviews of federal environmental compliance requirements, laws, regulations and other directives. Case studies of programs implemented by other airports provide further insight into the practical realities of proactive environmental stewardship.

Gresham Smith is currently working to update this guidebook to encompass sustainability and resiliency planning.
