We are proud to announce that the Methodist Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital’s Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) Expansion project, located in Memphis, Tennessee, has been honored with first place Platinum Award for the 2025 HCD Interior Design Competition. This prestigious recognition highlights the hospital’s commitment to creating thoughtfully designed healthcare spaces that enhance care, foster healing, and support patients, families and medical teams.

The HCD Interior Design Competition celebrates the best in healthcare interior design, recognizing innovative environments that reduce stress, promote connection, and enhance the overall experience for patients, families, and caregivers. Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital’s CVICU Expansion stood out among this year’s entries for its functional layout, supportive workflows, and intentional, patient-centered design approach.

“We are honored to be recognized with this distinguished award,” said Healthcare Project Executive David Zegley, AIA, LEED AP. This expansion was designed with healing in mind—every detail of the space was carefully considered to reduce stress, enhance collaboration among medical staff, and provide comfort and support to patients and families.”

The CVICU expansion exemplifies the essential role of interior design in healthcare by combining clinical excellence with a healing environment. Through strategic design, innovative spaces, and thoughtful interiors, the project strengthens the hospital’s mission to provide world-class care in a space that fosters well-being, connection, and recovery.
