Gresham Smith is proud to announce that the City of Dallas Office of Environmental Quality & Sustainability has selected the firm to conduct a greenhouse gas emissions inventory of community sources and municipal operations. The inventory is in support of the City’s Comprehensive Environmental and Climate Action Plan (CECAP), which outlines proactive steps to reduce the carbon footprint of municipal operations and furthers the City’s goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050.
“Our partnership with the City of Dallas underlines our shared commitment to environmental stewardship,” said Lauren Seydewitz, program manager of Gresham Smith’s Sustainability and Resiliency Center. “The City is a respected leader in proactively reducing greenhouse gas emissions. By updating their emission inventory, the City will gain visibility into the impact of current carbon reduction strategies and gain access to valuable data to inform and enhance future environmental strategies. We are excited to play a key role in this important project.”
Gresham Smith will team with ICF International, Inc., a global leader in greenhouse gas emission inventories, to measure emissions as part of a comprehensive inventory. The citywide inventory accounts for emissions from community activities taking place within the boundaries of Dallas city limits, including direct and indirect emissions from energy consumed, transportation of people and goods, and waste generated. The municipal inventory accounts for activities within the City of Dallas government operations. These emissions include those from City-owned facilities and equipment, purchased electricity and activities related to the City government’s operation.
