Gresham Smith Selected to Design Surgery Department Expansion at HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood Medical Center

Renovation and Expansion Will Help Transform an Existing Medical Office Building to Hospital Occupancy

Gresham Smith is excited to announce that the firm has been selected to design a surgery department expansion and renovation at the Hospital Corporation of America’s (HCA) Houston Healthcare Kingwood Medical Center. The project, which is comprised of 8,000 square feet of newly constructed space and 15,000 square feet of renovated existing space, will expand critical surgical care services in one of the fastest growing states in the country.

The surgery department will house four general operating rooms, two endoscopy rooms, nine shared prep/recovery spaces, eight post-anesthesia care units and a central sterile department. Gresham Smith is providing architecture, interior design and signage and wayfinding services for the project.

“As Texas continues to experience rapid population growth, communities will need top-notch healthcare facilities that have the ability to meet their needs for decades to come,” said Senior Healthcare Architect Nilanjana Snyder, AIA, LEED AP. “Gresham Smith will use forward-thinking design strategies on this project so that we can deliver the best facility possible for the patients of today and the next generation.”

This project is a continuation of Gresham Smith’s work at HCA Houston Kingwood Medical Center. The firm also previously completed a 91,000-square-foot addition and renovation at HCA’s Woman’s Hospital of Texas in Houston.
