Gresham Smith is proud to announce that the firm’s interior design for the Sarah Cannon Lake Nona Drug Development Unit and Kaiser Permanente Lutherville-Timonium Medical Center were honored with design awards by the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) Tennessee chapter. Gresham Smith staff accepted the awards at the IIDA Design Awards Gala, “Design at the Disco,” on Sept. 22, 2022.
“Commercial interior design has the power to be life changing, and in some ways, lifesaving,” said Senior Healthcare Interior Designer Ashley Wood, RID, NCIDQ, IIDA. “In healthcare design, every decision is for the well-being of patients, staff and family members, and forward-thinking strategies can elevate the patient experience. I am honored that our team has been recognized by the Tennessee IIDA chapter for our role in positively benefitting the communities we serve.”
Located in Lake Nona, Florida, the Sarah Cannon Research Institute brings together cutting-edge cancer treatments, advanced diagnostics and research into one location. Clean, white walls, expansive windows and decorative pendants at workstations reflect Sarah Cannon’s innovative practices. In addition, natural warm wood tones give the space a timeless feel. The chosen accents have elements of natural waves and ocean-like features that are attributed to the community in which they reside and elevate the patient-centric approach.
Designed to bring a wide range of health services to the North Baltimore community, the Kaiser Permanente Lutherville-Timonium Medical Center is a one-stop-shop for around the clock care. To address unique site challenges and reflect the local community, the exterior design embraces people from all arrival points with landscaping, murals and dimensional artwork designed by local artists. Within the facility, positive distractions, such as access to quality daylight, views and community-based artwork are prioritized to enhance the human experience. Using a juxtaposition of interior finishes, balancing the feel of the local Baltimore region and bold pops of Kaiser Permanente’s brand colors to modernize the space, the firm’s interior design embraces the community’s vibrant energy.
The IIDA Tennessee annual Design Awards Gala honors members and local firms in the interior design professional. The Tennessee chapter is part of IIDA, a nationwide association for the commercial interior design industry, providing resources to professionals and students in the industry and their clients to advance the profession and enhance business value.
