Name: Elizabeth Tinsley
Current Title: Landscape Designer
Office Location: Nashville, TN
Years at Gresham Smith: 1.5
We’re excited to introduce you to Elizabeth Tinsley, who doesn’t actually work for Gresham Smith, since her motto is that “you will never work a day in your life if you love what you do every day!” Her introduction to our firm was a family affair because her cousin works here too, and we’re ecstatic to have her with us , even if she has to take a dirt road every once in a while to get here.
Where did you grow up?
Orlando, Florida
Where did you go to college?
The University of Florida in Gainesville. Go Gators!
What drew you to Gresham Smith?
My cousin works for Gresham Smith, but I had also always heard great things about the firm. I knew there were amazing opportunities at Gresham Smith and I would get to work on pretty cool projects.
What’s your favorite project you’ve worked on at Gresham Smith and why?
The Baptist Health Care Brent Lane campus in Pensacola, Florida. It’s the largest project I have ever been a part of and I spent most of my first year at Gresham Smith working on it. The campus is organized around a park-like town square that includes groves of heritage oak trees native to the Northwest Florida landscape and features a variety of amenities including walking paths, rehab areas and outdoor event space. Now I get to watch the project be constructed and it brings me so much joy that I was a part of building something so amazing for the community of Pensacola.
What made you choose your profession?
I started at the University of Florida with the intention of graduating from the School of Architecture and minoring in Landscape Architecture. However, I had more fun in my Landscape Architecture classes and decided to switch my major after my second year!
What’s the best advice anyone has ever given you?
Hard work doesn’t come easy, keep your eyes on the goal and pave a way to get there. Even if you have to take a dirt path once in a while you will still get there with consistency.
What would be the title of your autobiography?
Never a Dull Moment in the Life of Elizabeth Tinsley
What music is playing in your car right now?
A Kelly Clarkson CD or the local country music radio station.
What are three objects that can always be found on your desk?
A photo of me and my husband, a rendering of a project I worked on, and a Florida Gators flag.
