Don Hartdegen Joins Gresham Smith as the Industrial Market Mechanical Department Leader

Gresham Smith is excited to announce that Don Hartdegen, P.E., has been named as the new mechanical department leader for the firm’s Industrial market. He will be based in the firm’s Buford, Georgia office.

Hartdegen brings over three decades of experience in mechanical engineering and project management with a focus on lean design principles, and he has served in several key leadership roles at other consulting firms, including department leader. He has experience working across market sectors, including advanced manufacturing, food & beverage, and energy and biomass facilities. His experience includes mechanical, electrical, plumbing, power, and renewable energy process design. A leader in sustainability, he has also delivered multiple award-winning projects that have achieved net zero energy status.

As mechanical department leader, Hartdegen will oversee all aspects of the mechanical engineering department within the Industrial market. His responsibilities will include managing the department’s resources, setting strategic direction, and leading the team in executing high-quality engineering solutions for clients.

He bolsters the firm’s Industrial market presence in the greater Atlanta area, where several senior leaders now reside. The firm is currently delivering a $4.3 billion, 2.4 million square-feet lithium-ion battery plant for a joint venture between LG Energy Solution and Hyundai Motor Company in Bryan County, Georgia.

He is a registered professional engineer in over a dozen states across the Southeast and Midwest, and he received his Bachelor of Science degree from Bradley University. He lives in Cumming, Georgia.
