Gresham Smith is proud to announce that Brian Yates, P.E., has joined the firm’s Water + Environment team in Columbus, Ohio, as a senior engineer.
Yates brings more than 15 years of experience working on a variety of project types, including drinking water supply and treatment, wastewater collection and treatment and stormwater management. He also brings expertise in poly- and per-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). In a previous consulting role, Yates designed and managed projects for numerous private- and public-sector clients, including the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, the City of Columbus, Columbus Metro Parks, Western Water Company, United Mobile Homes and Sofidel America.

An industry advocate, Yates is a member of the Ohio Water Environment Association and has spoken at the American Water Works Association Water Quality Technology Conference and the Ohio Stormwater Conference. Additionally, he’s authored articles for the Journal of Environmental Science and Health and the American Society of Civil Engineers’ Environmental & Water Resources Institute. Inspiring the next generation of engineers and scientists, Yates serves as a judge at The Ohio State University’s Ohio Academy of Sciences State Science Day, the Buckeye Science and Engineering Fair and the FFA Agriscience Fair.
Yates is a graduate of University of California, Berkeley, where he earned a Master of Science in Environmental Engineering. He also earned bachelor’s degrees in civil and environmental engineering, as well as pure mathematics, from the University of Cincinnati.
