Gresham Smith is proud to announce that Alberto Mercado has joined the firm’s Water + Environment team in Dallas as a project executive. With over a decade of experience in strategic business development, infrastructure planning, and client relationship management, Mercado will play a key role in expanding the firm’s wastewater and stormwater services across Texas.
Mercado joins Gresham Smith from Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam, Inc. (LAN), where he made history as the youngest Senior Associate and played a pivotal role in securing and leading multimillion-dollar infrastructure projects for municipalities, utility districts, and federal agencies. He has a proven track record of forming long-lasting client partnerships and fostering team excellence; while at LAN, his strategic leadership drove a nearly 200% revenue increase, contributing to major projects for the City of Dallas, City of Fort Worth, and Trinity River Authority.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Alberto to the team. His extensive experience strengthening client partnerships and delivering critical infrastructure projects, combined with his passion for mentorship and community engagement, will be instrumental as we design solutions that create healthy, thriving Texas communities,” said Dale Jones, Water + Environment executive vice president at Gresham Smith.
“I’m excited to join Gresham Smith’s Water + Environment team, where integrity and teamwork are core values,” said Mercado. “My goal is to build lasting partnerships, mentor future leaders, and guide our clients toward strategies that elevate both people and public infrastructure. Together, we’ll push boundaries, improve lives, and make a real difference-one project at a time.”
Mercado is actively involved in the industry, serving on the board of the North Central Texas Chapter of the American Public Works Association and as a member of the Texas Water Utilities Association, the Water Environment Association of Texas, the North Texas Commission, and the Regional Hispanic Contractors Association. He has also been recognized with multiple industry awards, including the 2023 President’s Award from the American Public Works Association North Central Texas Branch, and was selected for the Public Works Institute of Texas Leadership Program and North Texas Commission’s Leadership Class 12.
Mercado is a graduate of the University of North Texas.
