Krystal Anderson Named Gresham Smith’s Richmond Office Leader, Honored as AIA VA Emerging Architect

Community and Industry Leader to Engage Local Office

Aviation Senior Architect Krystal Anderson, AIA, has been named Gresham Smith’s Richmond office leader. Additionally, Anderson was recently recognized with an Emerging Architect Award by The American Institute of Architects (AIA) Virginia chapter. The award honors individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and made significant contributions to the architecture profession early in their careers through design, service, education or through advancement of social justice, equity, diversity and inclusion.

As office leader, Anderson is responsible for growing cross-market partnerships and proactively strengthening the Richmond office’s culture, which includes 20 professionals across Gresham Smith’s Aviation and Healthcare markets. She will also work to strengthen business relationships in the region, including the Richmond International and Norfolk International airports as well as healthcare clients throughout Virginia and the local architecture community.

Within the office, Anderson will focus on mentoring the next generation, cultivating office culture, and advancing the profession and design through the projects she works on. Through her volunteering and engagement outside of the office, she can build on those experiences and enhance her leadership within the firm.

With 13 years of experience in the industry, Anderson has been heavily involved in the AIA at both the state and local level. Over the years, she has served on both AIA Virginia’s board and AIA Richmond’s board and is currently involved in AIA’s Community and Government Affairs Committee. Through her time serving within AIA, she has contributed to the profession and community in multiple capacities. She has been instrumental in many programs and initiatives that have elevated the AIA membership experience and have had a positive impact on the community.

“Krystal’s proven leadership within the community and industry is vital as we guide our Richmond office towards future success,” said Rodney Chester, CEO and Board Chair of Gresham Smith. “She has a heart for and commitment to our Core Purpose to create healthy and thriving communities in the area and we are proud to see her dedication recognized not only within the firm, but within the industry.”

Anderson joined Gresham Smith’s Aviation market in 2017. She received her Bachelor of Architecture degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
