Gresham Smith “Invisible” Concept a Finalist in Healthcare Design Breaking Through Competition

Team Will Present Vision During Keynote at October Healthcare Design Conference

Gresham Smith is proud to announce that the firm’s futurist healthcare concept, “Invisible: The Hospital of the Future is No Hospital,” has been named a finalist in Healthcare Design Magazine’s 2024 Breaking Through conceptual design competition.

“Invisible” predicts a future devoid of traditional hospitals. Instead, healthcare is seamlessly integrated into our daily experience, no longer confined to facilities that can be isolating, sterile and stressful but instead within places of community, work and play. Leveraging biometric data collection, artificial intelligence, and the power of edge computing, “Invisible” combines these innovations to accurately pinpoint health indicators and transform nearly all of today’s health interventions into preventative care.

In addition to “Invisible,” the firm’s “PLOT” concept was named a semi-finalist in the competition. Short for “Patient Life Observational Treatment”, the PLOT concept digitally tracks individuals from birth, utilizing genetic information for personalized well-being guidance. Linked uniquely to each individual throughout their lifespan, PLOT blends nature’s healing properties with advanced automation, offering precise preventive care and reducing the need for emergent or acute medical attention.

Now in its fourth year, the Breaking Through competition invites healthcare designers to break free of limitations, asking participants to present concepts that solve anticipated healthcare challenges without constraints of budget, schedule or codes. In total, 41 teams submitted initial ideas for jury review. Thirteen were selected as semi-finalists, resulting in four finalists.

The “Invisible” team, alongside the three other finalists, will present their concept during a keynote session at the 2024 Healthcare Design Conference & Expo in Indianapolis, Indiana on Monday, October 7, at 2:15 p.m. ET.
