TJ Carvis Joins Gresham Smith as Project Executive in Denver

Denver-Based Architect Will Lead Life and Work Places Studio

Gresham Smith is proud to welcome TJ Carvis, AIA, LEED AP, as a Project Executive in the firm’s Life and Work Places market.

A resident of Denver, Colorado, Carvis has practiced architectural design and planning for 25 years in a variety of project scales and typologies and will bring a local perspective to Gresham Smith’s recently announced practice expansion. He will also focus on growing the firm’s client base in the commercial mixed-use, hospitality, higher education and residential sectors in Denver and the Western region, while delivering sustainable, forward-thinking projects.

“As our Life and Work Places studio continues to deliver unique design solutions to our clients and broaden our Western reach, TJ’s experience and knowledge will be a great asset to our team,” said Life and Work Places Executive Vice President Don Reynolds, AIA, LEED AP BD+C.

Prior to joining Gresham Smith, Carvis served as Principal at 4240 Architecture and, most recently, as a Vice President at Cannon Design. During his time there, he led project teams from conceptualization through construction in typologies complementary to Gresham Smith’s Life and Work Places market. His portfolio includes many award-winning higher education, commercial mixed-use, hospitality and residential projects, including five buildings in Denver’s Riverfront Park, The Elizabeth Hotel in Fort Collins, The Lionshead Welcome Center in Vail and the University of Colorado Boulder’s Kittredge West and Central Residence Halls.

“I’m bullish on Denver’s future growth, especially considering the abundance of urban infill projects on the horizon,” said Carvis. “I am equally thrilled to join Life and Work Places’ talented team and with the opportunity to continue supporting the development of the city by delivering transformative projects essential to creating vibrant and diverse communities.”

Carvis holds undergraduate degrees in Economics and Finance from the University of Colorado Boulder, as well as a master’s degree in architecture from the University of Colorado Denver. He serves as the Chair of the American Institute of Architects Colorado Government Affairs Committee. In this role, he works with the Committee to review and comment on legislation that pertains to the architecture industry in the state of Colorado.

Carvis spends much of his leisure time enjoying outdoor activities in Colorado with friends and family, including hiking, skiing and golf.
