Gresham Smith Selected to Design Intensive Care Unit Expansion at HCA Medical Center of Aurora

Additional Beds and Enhanced Family Space Will Elevate Critical Care for Denver Suburb

Gresham Smith is excited to announce that the firm has been selected to provide architecture, interior design, and signage and wayfinding services for an expansion of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at HCA Healthcare’s Medical Center of Aurora in Colorado. The project will renovate existing shell space and add an additional 5,000 square feet, which will increase the availability of critical care services for residents in the growing Denver suburb.

The expansion will create room for an additional 12 ICU beds at the medical center, as well as a larger waiting room, which will enhance the experience for family members. Additionally, smart space planning in the clinic area will elevate patient care by promoting communication between healthcare providers and their patients.

“As architects, our job is to understand the needs of our client and the community and use innovative design strategies to deliver a facility that will provide comprehensive support,” said Healthcare Project Executive Nilanjana Snyder, AIA, LEED AP. “We’re excited to continue our relationship with HCA and look forward to designing a space that will meet the needs of evolving patient care strategies.”

Gresham Smith is also designing an inpatient rehabilitation facility expansion at HCA’s Sky Ridge Medical center in Lone Tree, Colorado.
